Maryland’ First Settlement: Visit Historic St. Mary’s City, founded in 1634, it was the first European settlement of the Maryland Colony and was the fourth oldest permanent settlement in British North America. It is home to the Maryland Dove, a re-creation of an early 17th-century English trading ship, which made the first expedition. Walking paths, beautiful water views, start your journey at the St. Mary’s City Visitor Center.
Civil War History: Visit Point Lookout State Park that is primarily known for its Civil War history, specifically its role as a prison camp for Confederate soldiers and a Union hospital. The park is also known for fishing, boating, and camping.
Visit the Patuxent River Naval Museum, it features a variety of interactive exhibits, such as a replica of a WWII-era control tower, a dive bomber simulator, and a flight simulator.

Cross the Thomas Johnson bridge into southern Calvert County. On Solomons Island the Calvert Marine Museum offers visitors a unique and fascinating look at the history of southern Maryland's coastal region. The museum has a touch pool, a virtual reality exhibit, a light house display and a large aquarium with local fish.
